Yes, incredible as it sounded to me, the last day we were in Las Vegas last this week, our taxi driver looks at my watch and said, "Nice Daytona. I love that watch, I have one too." I asked him how he got it, what the story was. He said he was on an AD’s list in Las Vegas for a while and finally got the call. He said he could have easily gotten a TT one for about the same money or less, but he had to have a SS one. I told him about this forum and wrote down the link for him on the back of my business card. Maybe we’ll see him here one day. He said taxi drivers can make about $70k a year there after I mentioned that he’s doing quite well for himself. He said he also gets to most of the shows in Vegas for free. Some taxi association gets him free tix and then he tells passengers how great the show was if he likes it. Pretty cool deal…
On with the story… went to Vegas this week for 5 nights for the first time and loved it. We had free airfare due to points we saved up over many years and also had 5 free nights at our hotel due to a contest I won at work.
A Daytona lurks by the pool at our hotel

Quite small pool but private and quiet (aided by a blurry Daytona shot - hey, I know I’m not a great picture taker, but at least I try to take some pics for you guys!)

A daytona approves of the luxury hotel room

Is it safe to wear a Daytona 39 stories high? We had the top floor

Is it safe while drinking our hotel’s water?

A daytona gets a private driver if there’s one available at the hotel - sweet perk. We were lucky to get 2 free rides while we were there as it was available. It was on a first come first served basis, an Escalade.

The Wynn’s indoor flower garden. I had to take watch pics when my wife wasn’t looking so she wouldn’t think I was a twit. That’s why some aren’t good or blurry

Guess I’m not the only one with an addiction… shopping for Manolo’s at The Wynn (she didn’t buy them but they sure were nice)

The Wynn was the prettiest hotel of the gaming hotels

What’s this, the Rolex dealer I’d heard about at the Wynn? Be still my pumping heart…

Back at the hotel, we decided to try the Mandalay’s pools too. Is it safe to go in the water up to your knees with a Daytona on?

Clearly this guy is having fun as his watch survived the dip in the pool

Did someone say, wave pool? I’ll time the lengths between the large waves with my chrono

A drunk guy jumped in head first into this 4 ft Bellagio lake the day before we got here, breaking his arm and ending up in the hospital.

The Forum Shops at Caesars and another blurry pic

The quiet Rolexes - the Exp 2’s… I’ve rarely seen them highlighted like this in their own special window in my area of the world

The venerable DD’s will soon be classics when the new colossal size ones emerge. I like how they display them with all the same color blue

Back on our hotel elevator, away from the madness of the casino hotels. It was a quiet, sane haven for us.

A blurry pic of our hallway

I rented a limo for a 1/2 day to see the Hoover Dam and the strip as an anniversary gift to my wife. She’s never been in a limo and always talked about wanting to do it.

The Daytona survives the Hoover Dam tour

This machinery in the dam was even more impressive than the machinery inside my watch

Gotta pay for the next Rolex… working in the limo on the way back from the dam

The Daytona survives the trip, back at the hotel

There’s Rolex watchband stretch… and then there’s limo stretch

A blurry shot inside the Venetian at the canals

The newest Palazzo Shops, the nicest shopping area we’d seen in Las Vegas

Back at the hotel

Breakfast our last full day…French toast

Bouchon - it was worth the drive from our hotel to get here at the Venetian again

Black sign, black dial - keep in mind, I had to take these pics fast lest my wife see me taking any Rolex pics!

Rented a car one day to do Red Rock Canyon

I love the outdoors… it was amazing that it was 97 degrees but you didn’t sweat due to the dryness. Where we live, in 10 minutes you’d be dripping wet at this temp due to the humidity.

Can a Daytona stand the heat? Uh, yeah.

In the elevator

Back to the 39th floor at the hotel

A Daytona’s view from the top floor of the Four Seasons looking into the Mandalay’s pools - time for another test of it’s waterproofness?

My wife showing off her "newish" Omega and the best dinner of the trip at Japonaise before we saw "Love" at the Mirage… Pork Chop with oysters

Sneaking a last pic or 2 in the bathroom at Japonaise Restaurant

Next trip… Miami and Naples Fl in 2 weeks.
Thanks for looking. We had never been to Vegas together and it was better than I thought it would be. Coolest moments: getting lost at our hotel once and a nice gentleman helped up find our way back to the elevator. We chatted with him for a few minutes and we all got on the elevator. After he left the elevator my wife commented to the other guy in the elevator, "That was a really nice guy to help us like that". The guy commented, "Yeah, he’s great. That’s Craig who started Craig’s List. He was the keynote speaker at our software convention tonight".
Other cool moment was seeing a good friend that I haven’t seen for 10 years on the line to get into Love. He had brought his now 21 year old soon out to Vegas for his first trip away. We caught up for about 10 minutes - a truly great time was had by all. The whole week was filled with great times. I can’t wait to go back in about 5 years or so… So many other places to visit, so little time and money!
Cheers,
Steve R

I thought I would get out from behind the computer and go for a little walk today…
It was a gorgeous day. I always love the dry stone walls we have in England. A "master craft" that is sadly vanishing. To build a wall without any mortar, just using dry stone - quite an achievement…

Green lichen on dry stone

Not quite Rolex green

Of course, sometimes the walls fall over and need repair

I love this place

Peaceful

Tranquil

Time to stop, and contemplate nature’s beauty

There is always something relaxing about being near water. Perhaps because humans are mainly water, I don’t know…

Pepsi bezel

White water

This time a few weeks ago I was in New York City

The changes a few days can bring…

A lovely Sunday indeed.
Where did you take your Rolex today?
Hope you enjoyed!
All the best,
